The Burger Bistro (www.theburgerbistro.com) is the brainchild of longtime friends and co-owners John Agnello and Vincent Dardanello and features an upscale customizable burger boutique concept at three different locations. The duo began opened the first location in Bay Ridge (7217 3rd Avenue) in June 2009 followed by a second location in Park Slope (177 5th Avenue) in March 2012. The newest restaurant graced the Upper East Side (1663 First Avenue) dining scene in October 2012. The burger menu boasts two million different combinations of burgers and has garnered the title of second best burger in New York City from Zagat.
All three locations harbor unique attributes, but each has a narrow interior lined with dark wooden-topped tables. Colorful hand-painted murals that, when viewed through mirrors that hang on parallel walls, reveal hidden messages throughout.
Co-owner John Agnello has also left his mark on each location with his vintage window art, actual windows featuring his designs, also lines the walls.
Co-owner and executive chef Vincent Dardanello, along with Agnello, has created a build-your-own-burger menu that includes over 20 different cheeses and toppings, six specialty sauces and five freshly baked breads resulting in over two million possible combinations of customized burgers. When guests are seated they are given a laminated menu and red wax pencil to mark their choices and build their burger. Appetizers are priced from $7 to $8 and include Buffalo tater tots with celery and blue cheese, neezburger chachos with tomatoes, onions and jalapenos, and deep-fried corn on the cob with chipotle mayo. Burgers range from $8 to $10 and may be built with beef, organic lamb, turkey, chicken, shrimp and veggie patties. Cheeses may be added for $1 to $2 and feature ten choices from the traditional American to fried mozzarella. There are ten different types of toppings priced from $1 to $2 including popular favorites like Applewood bacon or frizzled onions to more unique offerings such as Buffalo shrimp or pickled jalapenos. Lettuce, tomato and raw onion are available upon request for no additional charge. All burgers are served on freshly baked bread and guests may choose between brioche, whole wheat, garlic bread (add $1), sliders (2 per order) or lettuce wrap. Six specialty sauces are served on the side for an additional $1 and offer a choice of blue cheese, chipotle mayo, honey barbecue sauce, horseradish cream, jalapeno mayo, and wasabi mayo. The dessert menu features $6 create-your-own ice cream sandwiches, choose from chocolate chip cookie, Belgium waffle or shortbread cookies filled with a choice of vanilla, red velvet or mud pie ice cream. The guests are truly in control of their dining destiny.
In addition to the regular burger building choices, an array of creative artisan burgers are available as specials throughout the year. The infamous Donut Burger, a beef patty nestled between two halves of a sugar donut with bacon, egg and cheese is an example of what guests have come to expect. A $10 lunch special is available Monday through Friday until 4 p.m. and offers a beef, turkey, chicken or veggie burger with one cheese, one topping and one side order. On Monday, kids eat free (eat in only) and may choose from a burger, chicken sandwich or grilled cheese with French fries. Tuesday is free topping day with a limit of four per burger (eat in only). Wednesday guests enjoy 50% off all wines by the glass or bottle. On Thursday all beer is buy-one-get-one-free. Friday and Saturday 15% off is offered on all deliveries, and on Sunday sangria is half off.
All three locations are open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.; Saturday from 12 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. By Metro Restaurant Marketing
